Olive Privacy Policy

At Olive (“we”, “us”, or “our”), your privacy and trust are sacred. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you interact with the Olive app and its services.

1. Information We Collect
We collect the following types of information:
a. Account Information
- Name (first name or preferred identifier)
- Email address or other approved authentication information for independently operated accounts
- Maturity stage, authoritative date of birth, or minimized age-assurance information where required
- Account type, individually expressed relationship context, and separately granted administrative authority
- Guardian authority attestations, invitations, acceptance, and Terms records where applicable
b. Reflections & Journal Data
- Text or audio entries you choose to create in the Vault or Whisper tools
- Emotional tags, tones, or metadata linked to your reflections
c. Technical Information
- IP address, device type, operating-system information, authentication events, and security telemetry reasonably necessary to operate and protect Olive
d. Billing Availability
- Olive V1 has no active payment processor or self-service purchase path
- Any future additional-storage offering will require separate approval and an updated disclosure before payment information is collected
e. AI Processing
- Data from reflections may be processed using OpenAI to generate compassionate responses
- Voice and text inputs are processed by AI only for an authorized Olive function. Olive does not infer a Child's or Teen's wishes, relationship preference, or safety concern from non-engagement.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To personalize your experience (e.g., greeting you by name)
- To deliver AI-generated support through your Companion
- To store and retrieve your entries securely
- To provide account services and communicate current storage availability
- To protect the platform from abuse or fraud
- To present crisis resources where applicable; Olive is not an emergency or clinical service
3. Data Sharing & Third Parties
We do not sell your personal information. We only share necessary data with:
- Supabase (account authentication, database storage)
- OpenAI (emotionally intelligent AI responses)
- Other subprocessors only when necessary for an authorized, disclosed Olive function
Each provider processes data under its own terms and privacy commitments. Olive limits sharing to the data reasonably necessary for the authorized function.
4. Data Security
Olive uses HTTPS/TLS in transit, provider-managed encryption at rest, authentication, row-level access controls, server-authoritative roles, and function-specific authorization to protect information. Access depends on governing ownership, recipient, relationship, guardian, delivery, and administrative rules; authentication alone does not grant access to another person's private matter.
5. Data Retention
Retention depends on the nature and governing authority of the record. Ordinary personal content may be deleted by an authorized person, but Entrusted Originals, directives, delivery and opening history, recipient-held matter, shared rights, legal holds, minimum security records, and truthful provenance may require different treatment.
Only an Adult may initiate permanent deletion of their identity or account. Withdrawal by a Child or Teen is not permanent deletion. After permanent deletion, Olive does not retain a hidden full account backup for resurrection, but may preserve the minimum attribution or stewardship record necessary for another person's legitimate surviving matter, legal compliance, or truthful historical continuity.
6. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
- Access your data
- Correct inaccuracies
- Request deletion
- Withdraw consent to data processing

7. Child and Teen Privacy
Olive supports one continuous human identity and Vault across Child, Teen, and Adult maturity.
- Child (birth–12): A Child identity and Vault may be established and administered by an authenticated eligible Adult who affirmatively attests to parent or legal-guardian authority and accepts applicable Terms. Before age 13, the Child does not independently operate Olive or independently submit personal information or content. Guardian or facilitator assistance is limited to authorized Child-account functions and already-delivered matter; it does not transfer ownership or reveal future-undelivered matter.
- Teen (13–17): At age 13 the same identity and Vault mature into the Teen stage. Independent operation is subject to secure activation, applicable law, age assurance, required consent mechanisms, and heightened privacy and safety protections. Ordinary Child-stage administration sunsets by default unless verified controlling legal authority requires otherwise.
For Teens, Olive applies privacy-protective defaults, data minimization, minimized age-assurance collection, no sale of personal information, no behavioral advertising or behavioral advertising profiles, no monetization of Vault contents, no unnecessary engagement surveillance, no unnecessary public discoverability, and restrictions on unsolicited contact from unknown adults. Olive does not provide a public people directory or infer emotional or relationship meaning from non-engagement.
Exact jurisdiction-specific eligibility, consent, and Teen privacy requirements remain governed by applicable law and qualified counsel.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Updates will be posted in-app and on our website.
